Funds raised at the charity event in New Jersey used for delivering humanitarian aid to flood victims beneficiaries sheltered at Monastery St. Petka

Humanitarian funds raised by Lifeline New York at the charity event that took place on March 22nd in Paterson, New Jersey were used for humanitarian aid to beneficiaries sheltered at Monastery St. Petka that were delivered personally by their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II, Crown Princess Katherine and Prince Peter.

Their Royal Highnesses went to Monastery of St. Petka in Izvor, 20 km from Paracin. They were welcomed by Mother Glikerija, head of the Monastery, nuns and several beneficiaries. Serbian Orthodox Monastery of St. Petka in Izvor was built in 16th century, and has been sheltering people and children who suffer from mental illnesses. Their Royal Highnesses visited this Monastery on several occasions in the past, and were helping it frequently.

Funds raised at the charity event in New Jersey used for supporting the Educational Inclusive Camp for the blind and visually impaired children in Serbia.

Educational Inclusive Camp for the blind and visually impaired children in Serbia is a multifaceted, inclusion-oriented project aimed to provide essential technical and educational support to children and youth with visual disabilities by providing necessary trainings and equipment that will support and develop their social integration.

The project is intended to mainly support blind and visually impaired children from socially deprived families from all parts of Serbia. In Serbia there are more than 300 children, age 0-18 that are blind or visually impaired. Furthermore, there are more than 12.000 blind and visually impaired people in Serbia that have never had the opportunity to develop other skills that could help them be fully included into the society nor to deal with their disability self-sufficiently.

Due to lack of educational facilities in the other towns and cities around Serbia, children that are not able to attend special schools are forced to attend regular schools despite their disability. They are in so-called “inclusive program”, but in reality they are fully dependent on their parents and not able to properly attend schools.

As there are no specialized educators to work with these children, the children usually have lower grades and are not properly equipped for normal life.

This problem is even deeper, as further in life, once these children become grownups and their parents get older or die, their disability is fully disabling them to continue with their normal lives – they are asocial and faced with even more difficult economic situation.

The goal of the project is aimed at blind and visually impaired children and their parents with education that will enable them to deal with their disability from an early age and thus help them to get included into society.

Total cost of the project is approximately 25,000 Euro. Most of the cost is provision of the necessary equipment that will be further and constantly used by the blind and visually impaired children. Entire $ 12,280 collected at lunch in Paterson, NJ, in October 2013 in presence of Their Royal Highnesses, goes to this project.
